Dinner and a movie is a fun way to spend some time out, but if you’re tired of the standard activities and are looking for something with a bit of a twist, there are plenty of interesting events coming up in the city.

Date Night: Cooking & Yoga

Happening on December 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 at YW Calgary Community Spaces, this event combines two activities that you might not expect to see together. If you’re looking for a fun couples activity that puts a twist on your regular dinner date, then this may be it. The first portion of the evening will be led by Yoga by Emma. Work up an appetite with some couples yoga and then transition into the second part of the event with a casual cooking class creating a three course meal. No experience is necessary for either activity. The event costs $95 per person and you must register in pairs. This event is for those age 18 and up.

Paint with Alpacas

Paint nights have become quite popular in recent years, but painting with alpacas may not be something you’ve ever considered. Come out and paint some pottery pieces and pet some adorably fuzzy alpacas. Running from 10am to 12pm on December 14 at Color Me Mine Cafe, this unique event is sure to be a crowd pleaser. All ages are welcome. The cost is $15 per person and includes paints, studio time, glazing, firing, the use of stencils, a beverage (hot chocolate for the kids and tea or coffee for the adults), and some super satisfying alpaca time.

Cooking Basics for Young Adults

If you’re a young person looking to pick up some skills in the kitchen, then you’re in luck. This 2 hour event, which is set to take place on December 28 from 12pm to 2pm at South Health Campus Wellness Kitchen, will teach young people the basics of cooking so they can feel more confident in their culinary abilities. Batch cooking and knife skills will be emphasized. Attendees can expect to learn how to create some healthy meals that will keep them going during those crazy study sessions. Cost is $75 per person and is open to those age 16 and up.

If you’re heading to the city and are looking for accomodation in Calgary, look no further than the South Calgary Econolodge. This top rated hotel offers affordable rates, complimentary continental breakfast, heated indoor pool and hot tub, fitness centre, free high speed Wi-Fi and much more.

It doesn’t matter when you take a trip to Calgary: there are always fun things to see and do. Indeed, that’s what makes the city so enjoyable for both locals and visitors alike. If you take a look at what we have coming up in October, you’ll see just what we mean. There’ll be pleasant Sunday mornings, Halloween fun for the whole family, and a chance to see an all-out classic movie on the big screen. Check out all the details below.

A fine Sunday breakfast

Sunday mornings can be great. So can breakfast. And so can music. But all three together? Well wow, that’s something else entirely. On October 27, you’ll be able to enjoy a fun and memorable morning at the Calgary Petroleum Club, where there’ll be performances of Wagner, Mozart, and more as you enjoy a delicious breakfast.

Scares for the family

Halloween is coming, and that means that there’s plenty of terror on the way! But don’t worry, if you’re visiting with your family, you don’t need to worry about everyone being too afraid. The Ghouls Night Out is a family friendly event that’ll be taking place October 24 - 27 at Heritage Park. Plenty of fun and just a little bit frightening….Boo!

Dinner and a movie

If you want to be genuinely scared, then you might want to get down to Gasoline Alley Museum on October 29, where they’ll be screening the spooky classic Bram Stoker’s Dracula. A cash bar and popcorn will be available.

Only the best hotel in Calgary will do for your trip away from home. At the Econo Lodge South Calgary, you’ll receive spacious, affordable accommodations within easy reaching distance of the city centre. Additionally, guests also get to enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast, heated indoor pool and hot tub, and high speed wifi.
