It doesn’t matter when you take a trip to Calgary: there are always fun things to see and do. Indeed, that’s what makes the city so enjoyable for both locals and visitors alike. If you take a look at what we have coming up in October, you’ll see just what we mean. There’ll be pleasant Sunday mornings, Halloween fun for the whole family, and a chance to see an all-out classic movie on the big screen. Check out all the details below.

A fine Sunday breakfast

Sunday mornings can be great. So can breakfast. And so can music. But all three together? Well wow, that’s something else entirely. On October 27, you’ll be able to enjoy a fun and memorable morning at the Calgary Petroleum Club, where there’ll be performances of Wagner, Mozart, and more as you enjoy a delicious breakfast.

Scares for the family

Halloween is coming, and that means that there’s plenty of terror on the way! But don’t worry, if you’re visiting with your family, you don’t need to worry about everyone being too afraid. The Ghouls Night Out is a family friendly event that’ll be taking place October 24 - 27 at Heritage Park. Plenty of fun and just a little bit frightening….Boo!

Dinner and a movie

If you want to be genuinely scared, then you might want to get down to Gasoline Alley Museum on October 29, where they’ll be screening the spooky classic Bram Stoker’s Dracula. A cash bar and popcorn will be available.

Only the best hotel in Calgary will do for your trip away from home. At the Econo Lodge South Calgary, you’ll receive spacious, affordable accommodations within easy reaching distance of the city centre. Additionally, guests also get to enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast, heated indoor pool and hot tub, and high speed wifi.

Canada, eh? The land of beavers and wintery wonders.  Canadians, and specifically those in Calgary have a distinct way to celebrate their Christmas/Holidays.  The spirit of the winter holidays is alive and doing well in cities like Calgary. To see how this manifests, you have to check out the Canadian way with these events:

Alberta Ballet: The Nutcracker

On December 14-16 (Friday to Sunday) and December 20-24 (Thursday to Monday), join the Alberta Ballet in The Nutcracker.  This 2-hour show has various times (and Saturday and Sunday matinees) , so it’s best to check out the website.  The ballet is accompanied by the CAlgary Philharmonic Orchestra at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary. Tickets range from $41 to $145. This show holds a wonderful tale, but it is also a great way to bring the family and share in a Canadian way of enjoying Christmas.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames

There is nothing more Canadian than hockey rivalry. And there is something about the winter months that make hockey so much more special; perhaps it reminds us of frozen lakes and rivers, and playing on the neighbourhood ice. Nonetheless our rivalry with our western neighbours is nothing short of symbolic of Canada. A good game of hockey can’t anyone wrong.  Join several thousand other people for a game at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, December 29, 2018. Game starts at 8 PM!

Once Upon a Christmas…

Start November 24 through to December 23, 2018, Heritage Park in Calgary transform into Calgary’s own little area for Christmas festivities. While these Saturdays and Sundays are an annual occurrence, a couple things are new this year. These include performances by the Acclamation Handbell Choir, an opportunity to pet the holiday horses, and the Calgary Carvers exhibit their art of woodworking. Horse-drawn sleighs and carriages? Come on, you cannot miss out!

--

Christmas can be tiring, especially if you are visiting from out of town.  We’ve got your rest, relaxation and sleep covered. The Econo Lodge in Calgary is just minutes away from everything, and can give you great value for your dollar.  If that isn’t enough, then consider the benefits of having a pool in-house, too!

Halloween is on its way and to help indulge in the halloween spirit and get your scare on, the annual “Haunted Calgary” presents:
Hollywood Horror. This isn’t just any haunted house… this is Calgary, Alberta's biggest and largest scaled haunted house which is hosted annually by volunteers and sponsors. This special event donates 100% of its funds and food raised to charity organizations in the near area. So why not do some good for your community whilst screaming your toosh off this October?

What to Expect

This event comes with a warning: enter at your own risk. Little is still known about the design of each haunted house as construction is still underway according to the Haunted Calgary Facebook page. However, the scare is themed off Hollywood classics so we can only expect to see lurking vampires, troubled maniacs, and maybe a little IT inspired clowns.

Times, Location, and Tickets

Haunted Calgary understands some individuals aren’t into the entire 10/10 guts and horror. Thus, the production team has set up two different “scare times” which allows for families to enjoy the events earlier during the day while adults and teens can enjoy the fright at night! To be exact, times available for a “low scare” grade will be between 2pm-4pm while the “high scare” will be between 6pm-10pm. Econo Lodge South Calgary is a quick 30 minute drive to Rocky Ridge Bay where Haunted Calgary will be held this October 2017.

As stated before this event is 100% pro bono, so tickets are by donation only. However, the Haunted Calgary Site recommends a $10 donation along with some non-perishable food items. This is an event Econo Lodge South Calgary is proud to advertise and our staff would be more than happy to help you with your travel to and from the event!
